Solar cars were first built by universities and manufacturers.
The first solar car racers completed a Solar Trek from Perth to Sydney, Australia in 1983.
During the 1987 race, the GM Sunraycer completed the 3010 km trip with an average speed of 67 kmh, and set a new scene for an extensive research and development program among the teams.
In the 1990s, new regulations appeared with an approach to "zero emissions" from vehicles. This new laws increased the interest in the solar technologies.
New Product
Taiwan – Drow Enterprise Co. Ltd’s SC-30 is a solar charge controller that features a digitally controlled circuit. It regulates current and voltage levels according to battery requirement, and has a maximum charging current of 30A and maximum solar cell power of 400W.
The Swiss company Mindset AG will produce an ultra-lightweight hybrid coupe vehicle with roof-mounted solar panels.
The Minsed AG Six50, has a 95 HP electric motor which can be recharged at home or with its ICE engine, a .63 liter V2 engine good for 24 HP.

Toyota Prius, is the world's most popular hybrid and will increase it's energy saving features. Toyota will include solar panels on the roof of its new high-end Prius models.
